Happy Birthday, Kenna!

Kenna requested breakfast in bed, so we obliged. I let her eat two "rolly pancakes" in bed and then she joined the rest of the family at the table. It's all about being the PRINCESS on your birthday, right?!

Kenna and Bekah really wanted to have matching parties since they couldn't be together and so Melinda and I sat with them to go through some cake websites. Their first idea was to make a cake that they were both mermaids on the beach with dolphins jumping. Nice idea-but not sure how to execute that one. Plan 2 a Littlest Pet Shop Cake, that would have been a lot of work but very cute. The thing that turned me off to that was the amount of preparation was going to have to go into the games. New plan-Melinda and I sat down without the girls and came up with a way to make them want something much more simple-it's all about the presentation. We found a really cute purse cake and told them they could have a dress-up party and they went for it! YAY!

The parties were both the same day, Bekah's just a few hours before Kenna's. Melinda sent me a text early that morning saying the cake wasn't exactly working out. The frosting was sliding off and then it fell over. She did a great job of salvaging it and making it very cute! And I appreciated the heads up so I could guard against those things. Our cake stayed upright, but we had issues with candy falling off. Hawaii humidity doesn't lend well to having the frosting set up, but we made it work.

I was reminded again how much help Melinda was at all the parties we did together! We decorated cookies shaped like purses and the girls loved it! There was a runway, the girls took turns walking down and posing and we did nails and make-up. It tricky to keep up with all the girls and prepare for the next activity on my own and then Brynlee was another complicating factor. But we survived and the girls had fun!

I must admit, I don't love this page-but in order to not have 15 pictures posted individually and to get her birthday posted so we can move on, this is what I came up with. This is the very reason I don't scrapbook!

Bekah and her cake in Idaho-someday we will do parties together again!

I think the cakes look awesome! It's so important to do these fun things for our kids and help them have good memories of being a kid--even if it seems like way too much work for us moms. :) Just makes us appreciate our moms even more, doesn't it, since they did the same thing for us.
